Following a Road Less Travelled

Kia ora friends, family and the wonderful folk who I have met just recently.

I find myself in San Francisco already 5 weeks into my sustainable house concert tour. Right now we’re staying at the home of a family friend who’s place used to be the residence of a very happening hippy commune called ‘The Family’. Locky’s parents were part of it for a little while back in the 70’s and stayed here way back then. It feels pretty cool to be returning as the next generation to their old stomping ground. The tour so far has been absolutely incredible. We left home on June 25th with a foot of snow to the fabulous summer bliss of North America. Vancouver was our first stop with a backyard concert with some truly incredible local musicians including Steven Charles and his band Viper Central. I met Steve 9 years ago when I lived in Vancouver.

We spent the most glorious 1st week of the tour on Gabriola Island off Vancouver Island. Our hosts Linda and peter George put on a show that is still destined to top all the shows on this tour. Their entire yard was bursting with supporters and, well, talk about sustainable. That gig raised enough to pay for the insurance on our van. A brilliant vehicle that Peter and Linda has sponsored to us for the length of the tour. We’ve named him ‘Esy Pete’ after my good friend Peter mrshal who was a major supporter of my crowd funding campaign.

We’ve visited permaculture farms, met urban bee keeps, played at a Solar powered learning institute, a beach front, back yards, cafes, farmers markets. You name it!

A highlight has been visiting my distributor in Portland, CD Baby. What an amazing crew of people and setup. That as a great experience.

From here we head to Yosemite National Park for a week before crossing over to Colorado for a string of shows and then straight up through the Tetons in Wyoming and Montana where I really hope to get a gig on Dude Ranch. Yehaw!

People have been so incredibly generous and supportive to us so far. I’ve received the attentive, listening audience I so passionately dreamed of finding when I decided to book this tour. Shows keep being offered left, right and center and the pot-luck dinners are possibly my favourite aspect of the whole tour (excluding the addition to my waistline). I can see how people can tour for a year. This approach could create a perpetual tour. We’ve seen so many stunning examples of people living consciously with our planet in mind and also with so much creativity. It’s made both Locky and I super excited about what we would like to do when we go back home.

Matilda has been an absolute gem on this trip and I thank everyone who has been so loving and warm to us and making her journey more comfortable. She has been asking for you all.

Cheers so much for all the letters of support, skype sessions and for checking in. As a family this is totally the trip of a lifetime and as a musician I feel like I’m living the dream.

Biggest love to you all

Anna
